From Cowboy Bebop: Space Cowboy

Session 16: Black Dog Serenade

  • Origin of Name: This title refers to the song Black Dog, written and performed by Led Zeppelin and a serenade, a means of performance, normally involving a personal solo.

After receiving a communication from one of his old pals in the ISSP, Jet goes off to find a ship hijacked by an assassin he hunted down when he was a member himself of the ISSP. Throughout the session more and more of Jet's origins are discovered, culminating in a betrayal by his friend-turned-enemy that leaves Jet forever severed from the Inter Solar System Police.

Session 17: Mushroom Samba

  • Origin of Name: The title here refers to a popular dance type known as the Samba, which has a certain feel to it reproduced in the session. The inclusion of Mushrooms relates to the main plot element, a series of very special mushrooms.

Broke and out of food, the Bebop sends Ed out to do some grocery shopping. Through a few comedic encounters with some rather odd personalities, Ed secures a large amount of mushrooms, which she brings happoly to the crew on the Bebop. Later, when they are all tripping from the special mushrooms, Ed sets out with Ein to catch the man responsible, who just so happens to have a bounty.

Session 18: Speak Like a Child

  • Origin of Name: This episode references a song written and performed by Herbie Hancock, Speak Like a Child.

After a video tape mailed to Faye arrives on the Bebop, a flurry of activity starts to find a way to play the tape. After visiting an antique store, Jet's interest is spiked and he drags a reluctant Spike along to find a video deck to play the ancient tape. On earth, they find an abandoned electronics museum and brave the perils of the underground to obtain the tape deck. Back on the Bebop, Faye watches the tape alone, struck dumb by the picture of her former self.

Session 19: Wild Horses

  • Origin of Name: This session title is yet another reference to a Rolling Stones song, Wild Horses.

While Faye and Jet pursue some space pirates in earth space, Spike is having some tune-ups done on the Swordfish II. After all has been repaired and he gets in touch with the Bebop, Spike goes off to confront the pirates himself. After nearly being killed by the pirates, Spike manages to escape with the help of Doohan, the old friend who worked on the Swordfish II. Afterwards, its more repairs and business as usual.
