Hyperspace Gates function on the premise of Spatial Alternation Dynamics and Phase Difference Space. The science behind this is based on the theory that the universe ceases to exist temporarily every 1/48th of a second and is temporarily replaced with Phase Difference Space which is 1/240th the size of our universe. This allows craft to travel at 240 times regular speed but requires that they enter and exit at the appropriate times. Any errors or miscalculations could leave you trapped in Phase Difference Space and unable to interact with the outside world. Hyperspace Gates, or Phase Difference Space Gates, allow travels to enter and exit Phase Difference Space at predetermined locations. This gate are run by the Gate Public Corporation which assessed tolls on traffic through the gate system.

Critical flaws in the gate system were responsible for the Gate Disaster of 2021 which destroyed Earth's moon and devastated the planet.
