Overview

There are 9 classes currently in the game these classes include Combats, Piloting, Bounty Hunting, Engineering, Smuggling, Diplomacy, Hacking, Chemist, Medic. These classes often overlap and it wont do you any good to try and specialize in just one. The Classes can be broken into 3 carreer objectives with piloting being in a 4th category by itself. Fighters would choose to start with Combat and Bounty Hunting while moving on to medic. While thieves would use hacking and smuggling and Builders would use Engineering and Chemist. Piloting is by it self because at this point everyone needs the basics of piloting or else you need too pay someone who is often busy or not available to fly you everywhere you want to go.

Combat Skills

Combat is said by some to be one of the three easiest skills to level. This is because combat gains are obtained quickly if you fight stuff at your own level or higher. In combat there is many choices of how you can level up but basically, just get a weapon and start killing stuff.

Bounty Hunting

Bounty Hunting is the proccess of defeating mobs or players wanted by the law. Bounty hunting is a daunting task for any new player since mobs generally give low bounty hunting experience. Yet bounty hunting is the most important group of skills for a fighter because of it's later skills such as limber and heighten accuracy or Circle and backstab if you choose to use knife-based weapons. To level bounty hunting there are three methods:

  • Kill mobs: Some will give you bounty hunting experience, Like criminals on mars.
  • Kill players with bounties: Killing players with bounties will give you 1 bounty hunting level.
  • Complete quests: There are several quests throughout the game designed to make bounty hunting leveling easier.

Medic

Medic skills allow you to heal yourself after a long fight quicker than the hospitals would, as well as healing friends or healing others in your group. Medic skills are not hard to level, they just take a little bit of time and effort. They will help a fighting group a lot in the long run though, to prevent your team from dying. Medic skills are not available when a player has adrenaline flowing within their veins.

Smuggling

Smuggling is an essential for any good thief, due to the fact it includes such great skills as: Steal, Pick Ship Lock, Peek and Hijack. With these skills you will be able to steal from almost anyone and take anything you want. Smuggling is challenging to level if ISSP are around, due to mobs and players yelling when you get caught stealing from them, but it is straight forward and one of the more enjoyable classes to level.

Hacking

Hacking is one of the hardest skills to level. Do not attempt it unless you have tons of extra cash and are very good at evading the law. Hacking does have its benefits but they take a long time to earn. The skills generally regarded as the best in this class would be Hackbay, Hacktransfer and Hackbounty. Hackwho is useful for finding out what organization someone is in, and Hackbroadcast is useful for allowing you to broadcast for free.

Engineering

Engineering is a quick skill to level with amazing returns on the relatively small amount of money you invest in learning it. The most useful and profitable skills are for armor and jewelry creation. GLM, the clan created for merchants, provides bonuses in item creation, thus their members tend to be highly sought after by players for high quality goods. The INT stat tends to provide the most bonuses for created items, and thus is the most important for a crafter to learn. If you want to make quick money engineering is the way to do it.

Chemist

Once you have engineering and are not afraid of getting caught by the ISSP, you should move on to producing drugs. Most of the PK players need drugs of one kind or another. The most popular are either yelloweye for luck or bloodyeye for strength. These drugs contribute a lot to the gameplay and strategies of playerkilling. To level chemist skills is like engineering, it just takes time and some money.

Piloting

The basics of piloting are needed by everone and are simple to learn. To practice all the skills, you start by launching your ship, flying it to other planets, and other locations within the system. This will increase your proficiency in piloting. After this no longer provides any experience, you will need to start space combat, which involves shooting other ships and trying to destroy them. Piloting is straight forward once you learn the basic commands like speed, course x y z, calculate destination and hyperspace.

Diplomacy

Diplomacy skills are mainly suited for more advanced players, containing many commands for dealing with NPCs and clans. The best skills are generally considered to be Spread Rumors, Propaganda, and Lobby. One of the major perks of being diplomatic is the ability to use public broadcast stations that are scattered around the solar system.
